Neutrogena T-Gel Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Review

It’s interesting how dandruff, psoriasis and certain other scalp afflictions have become the province of beauty companies like Neutrogena, but one supposes that this was an inevitable progression.  Instead of just helping your hair look silky smooth, they also provide you with medication to deal with some of the comparatively milder problems that you may have with the skin on your head.  But then, part of making you look beautiful is making sure you don’t look like you’ve got a debilitating condition, and a healthy scalp certainly looks much more attractive than one with disease.  Mindful of this, Neutrogena released a line of hair care products specifically designed to fight dandruff and maintain the cleanliness and normalcy of your scalp.  Enter the Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo, a product which has been around for quite a while, at least the past eight or so years, but continues to be offered as part of Neutrogena’s current product line.  It would not be out of line to assume that Neutrogena has tweaked the formula over the years, adding more of what works and removing the ingredients that are superfluous.

Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo comes in a thick, clear gel form, the color of amber, that smells absolutely repulsive compared to competitor products that are sweetly scented or fragrance-neutral.  Honestly, it isn’t that horrific, but you may want to consider a fragrant conditioner with a pleasant smell afterwards.  The secret ingredient this time around is coal tar extract, one of the less common anti-dandruff weapons, but still regarded as an effective one.  The shampoo is expected to be used two to three times a week, and contains that delightful attribute of its active ingredients bonding to your scalp and working to restore it to health even after you’ve rinsed out the shampoo.  For the benefit of those who are wondering, the formulation does not contain any alcohol.

The shampoo comes in a rather extensive variety of types for different kinds of scalp levels.  There is Original, for your standard, no-nonsense hair; Fine, for hair that may be susceptible to damage due to its relative frailty; Oily, for scalps that produce more sebum than usual, which is a factor that aggravates dandruff; Stubborn Itch, which is for those advanced dandruff cases that is accompanied by that persistent sensation that wants you to claw your head off; and Intensive Anti-Flake, for when the flaking aspect of the dandruff is the one that is clearly out of control.

The thing about products that deal with skin conditions is that they make you additionally susceptible to sunburn for some time after they are used, so you may want to lay off on those trips to the beach until the dandruff clears up.  The majority opinion for Neutrogena’s dandruff remedy is that it works, quite well, in medicating your scalp against dandruff, leaving it feeling clean, smooth, and itch-free.  Those with more aggressive scalp conditions also praise Neutrogena’s product, and point out that it is recommended by dermatologists.  The only significant drawback of the T-Gel shampoo is its hefty price tag.
