Gillette Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Review

The manufacturers of Gillette products say it’s the best a man can get, and they have done much to back that claim ever since they were formed in 1895 to mass produce and sell safety razors.  After over a century of being prominent in the minds of men everywhere as a premium option for grooming and personal hygiene, Gillette is still going strong, making its many products readily available to solve any aesthetic concern that a man may have.  Consequently, when it comes to its anti-dandruff shampoo, you would like to think that Gillette has done its homework, and come out with a product that does not beat around the bush for resolving your dandruff woes.  In this case, Gillette comes through, with a sleek blue bottle filled with a formula utilizing what the company calls ZPT technology.

If you’ve had any experience with anti-dandruff chemicals, you’ll probably end up snickering a bit when you realize that “ZPT technology” is really nothing more than the inclusion of zinc pyrithione as the active ingredient.  As you may be aware, zinc pyrithione is a powerful antimicrobial agent that seeps into the upper layers of your skin, cleansing it of harmful bacteria or fungi that may be disrupting the natural functions of your scalp.  By removing the inhibiting organisms, zinc pyrithione restores your skin to its normal growth and shedding pattern, so the flaking caused by excess skin production and the clogging of follicles vanishes.  So does the itching, which is likewise a side effect of the creepy things that used to be on your head, aggravating and irritating your skin cells.  Does this mean, then, that Gillette is merely ripping off other tried and tested products from competing manufacturers?

Well, perhaps.  But it also signifies that Gillette is doing its homework with regard to what works against dandruff and what doesn’t, and prefers to release a product that actually does what it is advertised to do, instead of simply riding on the popularity and goodwill generated by its brand name.  Moreover, the mere fact of similarities in active ingredients does not necessarily mean that one zinc pyrithione product is as good as any other, or that people will react in the same way to every such product.  It should be noted that the anti-dandruff shampoo released by Gillette contains cetyl and benzyl alcohol, which may not be ideal for certain more sensitive scalps.  Be sure to read the label of this and any other medicated shampoo that you wish to use, as there may be something on the label that your body just cannot tolerate.  It must also be emphasized here, while you are on the subject, that zinc has been known to induce allergic reactions in a small percentage of the overall population.  If you are sensitive to zinc in this fashion, you would be wise to stay away from this product.  Otherwise, the reviews of customers who have used Gillette are positive, and recommend the product highly, claiming that it has put an end to their dandruff days.
