Garnier Fructis Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Review

Garnier has established itself as a very decent cosmetics brand.  Like many companies that excel in this field, they also thought to expand their line of effective products; hence, their foray into the area of hair care.  Their regular Fructis shampoo products have received positive reviews from all fronts.  Fighting dandruff is a whole other matter though, and one does wonder how the Garnier Labs decided to tackle the problem of flaking skin cells.  For a start, they decided to live up to the “Fructis” brand by using citrus medica limonium peel extract, an aromatic natural dandruff fighter.  In layman’s terms, by using lemon peel Garnier added a slightly eco friendly twist to their offerings.

A lot of home remedies use lemon extract to supplement their anti dandruff benefits.  For those that believe in these alternative tonics, they will find this decision a good one.  Other than lemon, Garnier also included apple and camellia sinense leaf extracts to truly justify that Fructis name.  All of these fruit derivatives give these products a wonderful fruity smell, while being mild enough for the scalp. But enough with the scent though, how do these shampoos fair when judged by their true purpose?

To fortify their anti dandruff formula, they included an established ingredient, zinc pyrithione.  Other brands have used this ingredient to great effect and Garnier was wise to include it into their formula.  Not only does it work, but it is generally free of side effects.  Another good question to ask is, does it work for everybody? Well, that is the reason why Garnier launched a whole line of products, and not just one shampoo.  The Fortifying shampoo for one, is great for people with dry scalp due to its hydrating effect.  If this is a little too heavy for your hair though, do not worry.  There is also a Body and Volume alternative for those that want their manes looking full and beautiful.

Finally, it is understandable for some people to rue the time it takes to condition hair.  It takes only a few minutes and is important for proper hair care, but some would rather do away with that extra time.  This is why the 2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioner offering is available for people that need a quicker shower.  All of the alternatives have performed well, but there is one problem.

Garnier is not known as an anti dandruff brand, and to many it has not established itself as one.  This is why these products aren’t as widely available compared to others.  Another downside is that these shampoos still contain slightly harsh chemicals that may affect ultra sensitive scalps, a reason explaining why some still experience itching and recurring dandruff.  At least Garnier uses sodium laureth sulfate though, as opposed to the harsher carcinogenic lauryl counterpart.  If you happen to find these products though, they are still well recommended as relatively mild shampoos that smell fantastic.  Of course, their anti dandruff properties are the true draw.  For regular maintenance, they should be tried out.
