Embarrassment from Dandruff
The world can be a dreadful place, and teens start to
figure that out in high school.
Some believe this stage in a person’s life is the cause of social trauma,
especially for the awkward teen with huge glasses, zits and yes, dandruff.
One’s hormones and consequentially, the sebaceous glands just go out of
control for some people. The excess body oils cause problems for the skin
and scalp. It’s another matter
entirely if one were to experience dandruff as a mature adult.
It’s easier to deal with emotional problems and embarrassment.
One can be calmer and more logical to see that the solutions are just
around the corner, and one merely has to be patient to attain them.
As a teenager whose emotional stability and mental strength are still
forming though, dealing with the teasing that dandruff can bring, and the
resulting humiliation, is downright traumatic.
One of the first things young adults do in these
situations is isolate themselves, and feel sorry for their situation.
This can be dangerous.
People were never meant to be alone, and talking to a decent experienced
counselor can solve many problems.
Staying alone just worsens the problem, and there’s no one there to
make you realize that you’re not the only one experiencing it.
Dandruff occurs to at least 50 percent of the population.
Even the popular jocks at school encounter dandruff.
They may be great at hiding it, but they’re not fooling anyone.
Just knowing you’re not alone alleviates a lot of the mental and
emotional burdens of any situation.
Nothing is too trivial to talk to a friend or elder about, even
dandruff.
Being alone also makes one avoid the problem, and
naturally things get worse another way.
By letting the embarrassment of the situation take hold of your life,
one can get stressed out. Stress
is already a risk factor for dandruff.
Scientists explain that due to the increased tension, people cause
lower circulation to the scalp.
With less oxygen, flaking occurs due to a drier scalp.
Stress also causes one to eat poorly and forget about proper hygiene.
The scalp needs certain nutrients to help with circulation and
healing. Conversely, eating junk
food all the time makes the scalp oiler and more acidic, perfect food for
dandruff causing fungi. It’s a
vicious cycle that’s difficult to stop on your own, especially since it’s
hard to be introspective and objective about one’s problems.
Listen to the people in your life
that care. If you feel you can’t
talk to anybody, seek professional help.
This doesn’t mean you’re mental, but it shows you’re just as
problematic as anybody else.
By seeking help, you will realize a few things.
One is that, as a teen it’s natural for your body to produce more
oil. You will slowly get out of
this phase and the dandruff will lessen.
It would also be good to get used to maintaining the situation as
there is no cure. That isn’t a
problem either. Anti dandruff
products are very mild and affordable these days that anybody can use them.
All of this should make one feel calm and less embarrassed.
With the calm, everything tends to work itself out.
